The students organize a number of activities including an introductory trip for new students and an annual sports festival. For international students, the International Office and the university's international student association are promoting activities for international students, including a sports festival and food festival.
Since 1995, the Department runs the Global Leadership Program to increase the understanding of international issues and problems. Each fall semester, a group of specially selected students prepares a trip to a country in the region to study specific projects and visit international agencies. In the past, the program has visited Malaysia, Vietnam, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore, and there are plans to extend it to Europe.
This is a competitive program offered by the university to support outstanding students in a special research project. Each year, 20 teams of four students each are selected to undertake an overseas research trip. In the past, a number of students from the department have been successful and went to trips to Uganda, Europe and North America.
